On 22 March 2024, a commemorative event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian linguist, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, public and political figure Taras Romanovych Kiyak, was held in the exhibition hall 'All Mine, All Called Ukraine' of the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore.

Oksana Rotar, acting director of the ChRMLL, spoke about the life and work of Taras Kiyak. Yurii Lesyuk, Deputy Mayor for the Activities of Executive Bodies, noted the need to honour people who stood at the origins of building the modern independent Ukrainian state. People who knew Taras Kiyak's extraordinary personality shared their memories of the socio-political situation in the region in the early 1990s and T. Kiyak's role in the creation of the Green Movement of Bukovyna, the People's Movement of Ukraine, the Bukovyna Studies Centre, the 'Prosvita' society, and others: Anatoliy Kruhlashov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University; Hanna Skoreiko, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Ukraine at ChNU, head of the Bukovyna Studies Centre; Vasyl Boichuk, one of the founders of the NRM; Petro Kobevko, editor of the 'Chas' newspaper, and others. Finally, his wife and son Maksym shared their family stories.

Heorhiy Postevka, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Music at ChNU, and member of the All-Ukrainian Music Union, performed Taras Kiyak's favourite song 'Hutsulka Ksenia'.

The event was moderated by Tetiana Minaieva, Head of the Department of Modern History of the Region #ChRMLL, Candidate of Historical Sciences.

To mark this event, an exhibition titled 'Taras Kiyak. With Bukovyna in His Heart' (on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of his birth) has also opened in our museum, which everyone interested can visit for a month. The exhibition features memorial items, documents, photographs, and awards (both from the museum's exhibits and items from the family's collection).
