The exhibition introduces the prerequisites, beginning, course, and results of the First World War in our region.

The display cases feature samples of period weapons and military equipment, drawing attention to a propeller from an aeroplane that crashed in 1916 near the village of Ispas (Vyzhnychchyna), and an original carved box made in an Austrian prisoner-of-war camp. Photographs, documents, and other exhibits introduce visitors to the life of the region's population during the Great War of 1914–1918. A significant event reflected in the exhibition was the arrival of the last Austro-Hungarian Emperor Charles I in Chernivtsi in August 1917.

Separate sections of the exhibition are dedicated to the formation and activities of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, the events of the Ukrainian Revolution, the establishment of the Ukrainian People's Republic, the holding of the Bukovynian People's Assembly on November 3, 1918, and the establishment of Ukrainian rule in Bukovyna after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as well as the transition of Northern Bukovyna and Northern Bessarabia (Khotynshchyna) to the control of Romanian troops on November 11, 1918, with the subsequent incorporation of the region into the Kingdom of Romania. Items and objects displayed in the showcases and on the stands tell about the resistance to Romanian rule and the subsequent fate of the participants of the Khotyn Uprising, introducing visitors to the figures of local residents who continued the struggle for a Ukrainian state within the ranks of the UHA and the UPR army, including A. Kravs, P. Bolbochan, and others.
