The history of the formation of the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore is as multifaceted as the history of the Bukovyna region. Today, the museum's and its branches' collections comprise over 121 thousand artifacts. The direct holdings of the ChRML amount to approximately 107 thousand. Some of these are the legacy of several predecessor museums, which were created by generations of antiquity enthusiasts, starting from the second half of the 19th century.

In the exhibition hall of the Department of Archaeology, Medieval History, and Modern History of the region, a permanent exhibition titled «From the Golden Treasury of the Museum of Local Lore» has been created. We offer visitors a view of rarities from the museum's collections, which illustrate individual episodes from the history of the region and the lives of its inhabitants in the 19th to early 20th centuries, with special emphasis on particular exhibits.

Bukovyna has always been renowned for its folk artisans. Wood carving is one of the region's traditional crafts. The exhibition features a wooden, intricately carved bed, made in 1908 for the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I, whose visit the people of Bukovyna awaited for the 500th anniversary of the first written mention of Chernivtsi. Due to his advanced age, the emperor could not attend the festivities, and the bed was subsequently transferred to the Bukovyna Regional Museum.

Among the exhibited artifacts are original furnishings from the Metropolitan Library of the Residence of the Orthodox Metropolitans of Bukovyna and Dalmatia. These include a bookcase, a desk, and four carved chairs, dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. Above the desk hangs the painting «The Residence», created in 1910 by Yevhen Maksymovych, the eparchial painter of the Bukovyna Orthodox Consistory.

Works of art: icons, paintings, models of medieval German castles (from the exhibits of the Bukovyna Regional Museum), and original photographs from the late 19th - early 20th centuries add a special charm to the exhibition hall. The exhibition is complemented by reconstructed sets of urban clothing, reflecting European fashion trends of the 19th - early 20th centuries.

Furniture, crockery, textiles... these elements bring comfort and style to any home interior. Popular interior items of that era can be visualized by examining tables and chairs by the «Thonet» company from the late 19th century. An equally interesting exhibit is a handmade poker table, dating from the second half of the 19th century. Also noteworthy is a pair of wooden chairs from the same period, featuring turned and carved elements with soft upholstery.

Musical instruments and devices were an exquisite complement to the salons of that time. The exhibition features a harmonium from the second half of the 19th century and a «The Monarch» gramophone from the late 19th - early 20th centuries, manufactured in London by «The Gramophone Co. Ltd».

A highlight of the exhibition, attracting visitors' attention, is a map of post roads in Germany and Central Europe with appendices from 1816.
