INSPIRED BY A NOBLE SENTIMENT

13.02.2024 14:00

💕 On February 13, 2024, on the eve of St. Valentine's Day, staff from the Department of Archaeology, Medieval History, and Modern History of the Region at the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore conducted a fascinating master class on making romantic postcards.

💕 The event was attended by second-year students of the Faculty of Philology at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, specializing in 014.01 Secondary Education (Ukrainian Language and Literature), first (bachelor's) level of education.
💕 The moderator of the informational and educational master class, Oksana Dragomyretska, Head of the Department of Archaeology, Medieval History, and Modern History of the Region, spoke about St. Valentine and the history and traditions of the lovers' holiday. She recalled the eminent Italian Renaissance poets Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarch, whose lifelong loves – Beatrice Portinari and Laura de Noves – are known throughout the civilized world. She also discussed love in the lives of Ukrainian literary figures – Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Lesya Ukrainka…

💕 Yulia Mykosianchyk, Senior Researcher at the Chernivtsi Literary-Memorial Museum of O. Kobylianska, inspiringly spoke about the affairs of the heart of our compatriot – writer Olha Kobylianska, her circle, and her first feelings, which a very young Olha sincerely shared in her diary… The researcher displayed the diaries of O. Kobylianska and her friend Augusta Kokhanovska – now exhibits of the literary museum – and shared interesting factual information.

💕 Oksana Dragomyretska presented to the master class participants an exhibition titled "Austrian-era Greeting Postcards from the CRMLC Collection." She spoke about the emergence, transformation, and thematic diversity of postcards at the turn of the centuries. She displayed greeting postcards from the museum's fund, from the archives of Augusta Kokhanovska, Serhiy Kaniuk, Iryna Rusanova, and Borys Tymoshchuk. She also presented artistically crafted handmade napkin-postcards, decorated with embroidery and lace, from the collection of local historian Ivan Snihur, donated to #CRMLC.
